More COVID-19 cases in South Australia means more people wearing and disposing of face masks.
The RSPCA has a plea regarding the increased number of discarded masks – cut the ear loops before disposal to protect animal welfare.
In a Facebook post, the RSPCA calls for loops to be cut, alongside heartbreaking photos of seagulls tangled in single-use face mask loops.
“Discarded masks are having a terrible impact on animals,” stated the post.
“Although you might think you’re doing the right thing by responsibly disposing of used masks in the bin, there’s one more simple step you need to take to ensure your discarded mask doesn’t injure or kill an animal – cut the ear loops.”
While masks aren’t mandatory in South Australia, they’re still recommended when physical distancing is not possible.
