Rugby World Cup 2027 locks in massive Adelaide Oval schedule

Adelaide is set to host six blockbuster pool matches during the Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027, transforming the city into a global rugby hub across three action-packed weekends at Adelaide Oval.

Adelaide is gearing up for one of the biggest sporting moments in its history, with the Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 schedule now confirmed — and the city firmly in the global spotlight.

Across three consecutive weekends in October 2027, Adelaide Oval will host six pool matches, drawing fans from 10 nations and turning the city into a full-scale rugby festival. For locals, it means world-class sport on the doorstep. For visitors, it’s a front-row seat to rugby’s biggest stage paired with South Australia’s food, wine and events scene.

The opening weekend delivers a moment decades in the making, with Zimbabwe returning to Rugby World Cup action for the first time since 1991, taking on Wales on Saturday 2 October. The following day sees reigning world champions South Africa begin their campaign in Adelaide against Italy, launching their bid for an unprecedented third straight title.

The momentum continues into the second weekend, with England and Pacific powerhouse Fiji both taking the field, before the final weekend brings two decisive clashes — Japan v USA, followed by Argentina v Fiji in one of Pool C’s most anticipated showdowns.

All six matches will be played at Adelaide Oval, cementing the city’s role as a key host in the expanded 24-team tournament, which will feature 52 matches and a round of 16 for the first time.

The six Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 matches hosted at the Adelaide Oval include:

  • Wales v Zimbabwe | Saturday 2 October
  • South Africa v Italy | Sunday 3 October
  • England v Zimbabwe | Friday 8 October
  • Fiji v Canada | Sunday 10 October
  • Japan v USA | Friday 15 October
  • Argentina v Fiji | Saturday 16 October

Beyond the spectacle on the field, the economic upside is significant. International rugby has already proven its impact in South Australia, with last year’s British & Irish Lions match filling a record 10,745 hotel rooms in metropolitan Adelaide and generating $3.9 million in hotel revenue alone. With thousands of interstate and international fans expected across the three weekends, 2027 is shaping up to be another major win for the visitor economy.

Ticket demand is already strong, with hundreds of thousands of fans registered for the presale, which opens at 11:30am ACDT on 18 February and closes on 4 March. Prices have been set to keep the tournament accessible, with standing tickets from $20 for adults and seated tickets from $40.

Tickets for Rugby World Cup 2027 will be available only at rwc2027.rugbyworldcup.com/.
