Rundle Mall attempts world record for the most letters to Santa this Friday and Saturday

Be a part of history! Join the world record attempt in Rundle Mall to collect the most letters to Santa in 24 hours.

It’s time to rewrite this history books. This weekend, Adelaide’s centre Rundle Mall will be the home of a Christmas-themed world record attempt. Santa’s Rundle Mail Express, a free, interactive letter-writing event, is coming to the iconic shopping centre to break the world record for the most letters to Santa collected in 24 hours.

Taking place beneath the Gawler Place Canopy, the event will run during the evening of Friday the 13th and all day on Saturday the 14th. Rundle Mall aims to gather 2,145 letters to Santa—just one more than the current world record of 2,144, set by a Dubai festival in 2020.

Children are encouraged to visit the festive post station, where they can pick up a ‘postage paid’ postcard, write a letter to Santa, and send it off in a specially designed post box. Rundle Mall’s team will take care of the rest, collecting all the letters and ensuring they make their way to Santa at the North Pole. And, in the spirit of Christmas, every child who posts a letter will receive a reply from Santa himself.

In addition to helping break a world record, families who participate in Santa’s Rundle Mail Express will have the chance to win $200 worth of Rundle Mall gift vouchers. The first 100 families to take part each day will be entered into the draw to receive the vouchers, perfect for ticking off their Christmas shopping list.

Andrew White, Executive Manager of the Adelaide Economic Development Agency, encourages all South Australians to join the fun: “Writing a letter to Santa is a long-standing tradition, and we want to give families the chance to make those memories here at Rundle Mall. It’s the perfect place to get into the Christmas spirit and share the joy with loved ones.”

Alongside the letter-writing activity, Rundle Mall will be brimming with festive entertainment throughout December. Expect live music, face painting, pop-up bars, and more as part of Rundle Mall’s 12 Days of Christmas countdown. The celebration will run from Friday, 13 December, until Christmas Eve, making it the perfect destination for holiday cheer.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming millions of visitors to Rundle Mall this Christmas,” says White. “It’s the heart of the city, and we can’t wait to share the joy of the season with everyone.”

Make sure to head down to Rundle Mall to participate in this magical Christmas tradition and help rewrite the record books!
