Rundle Mall Comes Alive With Floral Exhibition

Rundle Mall will blossom into a sea of floral colour for the inaugural Living Colour Festival from May 1-15.

Rundle Mall will blossom into a sea of floral colour for the inaugural Living Colour Festival from May 1-15.

The Rundle Mall Management Authority (RMMA) has partnered with Nursery & Garden Industry SA and mental health organisation headspace Adelaide for the festival, bringing colour and vibrancy to the heart of the city.

More than 3000 plants, including ferns, pansies, snapdragons, geraniums, chrysanthemums and herbs, provided by South Australian growers will be used to create nine stunning displays along Rundle Mall and the precinct’s laneways.

RMMA General Manager Amanda Grocock said the Living Colour Festival would activate the Rundle Mall Precinct in a meaningful way, give something back to customers and raise awareness about mental health.

“We’re excited that Rundle Mall will be the canvas for these living artworks. Flowers are often a symbol of joy and we hope the displays will brighten people’s day,” Ms Grocock said.

“Plant life balance is essential for our wellbeing so we’ve also partnered with headspace Adelaide to increase awareness and encourage people to look after their mental health.”

When the Living Colour Festival ends on May 15, all plants used will be sold with proceeds going to headspace Adelaide.

Shane Hough, headspace Adelaide Youth and Community Engagement Leader, said it was important to raise awareness about mental health in various forms.

“The inaugural Living Colour Festival a perfect example of Rundle Mall and Nursery & Garden Industry SA being innovative and thinking out of the square to help support our services in Adelaide,” Mr Hough said.

Nursery & Garden Industry SA President Graham Brown said the festival was also an opportunity to celebrate the contribution that plants and flowers have made to our great State.

“In South Australia, we’re fortunate to have a great climate that allows such a diverse variety of plant life to flourish. We’re excited to be a part of the inaugural Living Colour Festival and can’t wait for people to see Rundle Mall like they’ve never seen it before,” Mr Brown said.

There will be a range of public activities on offer during the festival, including live painting by local artist Leah Grant on Sunday, May 1. Ms Grant will paint a shipping container with her interpretation of the ‘Living Colour’ theme.
