Rundle Mall Plaza To Open Adelaide’s First H&M Store

Rundle Mall Plaza has confirmed it will become home to Swedish fashion giant H&M’s first Adelaide store.

Fashion lovers, get excited. In the biggest news in South Australian today, Rundle Mall Plaza has confirmed it will become home to Swedish fashion giant H&M’s first Adelaide store as part of its extensive redevelopment that commenced during 2017.

Work to transform this prominent building into a new look shopping destination is planned to be completed in the second half of 2018.

The redevelopment will span four lower levels of the nine-storey Plaza building, with a Lower Ground Floor Tech Hub, the Ground Floor dedicated to retail and fashion, a new Dining Precinct on Level 1 and a Health and Wellbeing Precinct planned for Level 2.

A substantial part of the floor of Level 2 will be demolished to create a double height Dining Precinct with large glass windows overlooking Rundle Mall. Additionally, a new multi-storey void at the main entrance will be another standout architectural feature, hosting the relocated iconic Progress Statue above the entrance to the Plaza.

It is a major coup for The Weinert Group, owner of Rundle Mall Plaza, to secure this exciting international fashion brand as its new major tenant.

Weinert Group Executive Director Peter Weinert said the revitalised Rundle Mall Plaza would continue to set exciting new standards of retail excellence in Rundle Mall and South Australia.

“There is no doubt the time is right for this important redevelopment of the Plaza and introduction of this outstanding new H&M store into South Australia. This significant commitment by The Weinert Group shows continuing confidence in South Australia’s retail sector,” Mr Weinert said.

“The completed development will provide a unique shopping experience and with H&M as the major tenant, we expect Rundle Mall Plaza to not only be a significant drawcard for Rundle Mall in particular, but Adelaide in general.”

The redevelopment’s Leasing Agent for the Level 1 Dining Precinct, Julie Thomas from CBRE, said The Terrace Dining Precinct plans were quite spectacular.

“A double height glass atrium will be the centrepiece of a sophisticated art deco styled Precinct, offering sunlight, atmosphere and views over Rundle Mall. A destination in itself, ‘The Terrace’ will create an enjoyable shopping and business lunch experience, concentrating on higher quality food and beverage operators,” Ms Thomas said.

The large-scale project creates exciting opportunities for new retailers with numerous tenancies to be filled over the four levels.
