Rymill Park is about to welcome back one of its most nostalgic attractions, with the iconic row boats set to return to the lake this summer.
First gracing the lake in the 1960s, the boats became synonymous with this picturesque city park, and well loved by generations of Adelaidians. Their absence during the park’s upgrade has been a notable one, so news from the City of Adelaide this week that the row boats will officially return has been warmly welcomed.
The news is sure to unlock countless sentimental memories of leisurely walks through the parklands, neat rows of wooden boats at the lake’s edge, and stippled light glistening across the water.
The return of the boats marks the final stage of a multimillion-dollar rejuvenation of the park, which has included a complete transformation of the lake. The redesigned lake now runs on a sustainable stormwater system filtered through rain gardens.
Adding to the new chapter, the historic 1960s Rymill Park Kiosk is also getting a makeover, with plans for a modern cafe and plenty of outdoor seating. It will be run by the team behind Hindley Street favourite, Peter Rabbit.
Since officially reopening to the public in April last year, the park has welcomed Gluttony, Adelaide Equestrian Festival, and a Champagne Island that the city went wild for. Also making its triumphant return to Rymill Park this October, after a hiatus in 2024, is Harvest Rock, with a stacked lineup including The Strokes, M.I.A., Jelly Roll, and heaps more.
It’s fair to say this lively city park just keeps getting better, and the return of the row boats is the perfect finishing touch.
