SA’s Best Dressed Racegoer To Be Crowned

The queen of the track has been and gone, but now the princesses of racing off the track are about to cause a stir at Morphettville.

The queen of the track has been and gone, but now the princesses of racing off the track are about to cause a stir at Morphettville.

The inaugural Fashion at The Races State Final will be held this Saturday (May 5) at Centrebet South Australian Derby Day, where the best dressed racegoers from the past year will converge on Adelaide to represent their regions in the state’s richest ever racing fashion competition.

The winner of Fashion at The Races will drive away in a Volkswagen Polo and the runner-up will receive a $3,000 Liza Emanuele fashion experience.

Fortunately, those who missed out still have time to enter.

So far 14 Fashion at The Races finalists have been selected over 25 SA race meetings throughout the year, with pre-registrations now open for selection of the 15th and last Finalist, to be decided in a heat on SA Derby Day, followed by the State Final that afternoon.

In her final appearance, Fashion at The Races Ambassador and Ten News reporter Kate Freebairn will be scouring all the action trackside in the hunt for the best dressed.

"We've been so impressed with the fashion the girls of SA have shown off throughout the year, and this weekend it's all about taking it to the next level,” Kate said.

“We're looking for a real head turner…she'll be wearing the perfect raceday outfit that's classic and beautiful, but with something extra special that makes us say 'wow'."

Both on and off the track, this year’s SA Derby Day celebrations will be bigger than ever before with the Group 1 $500,000 SA Derby, the SAFM Diamond Lounge and a Liza Emanuele race wear fashion parade.

Registrations to compete for the 15th Fashion at The Races Finalist spot are open online at or on SA Derby Day from 12-1pm at the Tapestry Pavilion, Morphettville Racecourse.

Entrants must be 18 or over and are judged on appropriateness of the outfit for the particular event, originality and confidence, attention to detail with accessories, appreciation of current fashion trends, grooming and deportment.
