SA Bakers Put The “Bun” Into Fundraising

Bakers Delight bakers across South Australia are set to bake over 45,000 hot cross buns on Saturday 24 March, to raise money for the Women's & Children’s Hospital Foundation.

On ‘Bundraiser Day’ all 51 SA bakeries will donate $1 from every six-pack of hot cross buns sold to raise over $10,000 for sick kids at the Women & Children’s Hospital Money raised will fund the purchase of a Cardio – Respiratory Monitor for ward use. This equipment is used for comprehensive monitoring of a child’s physiological parameters such as heart rhythm and blood pressure.

According to Katlyn Rowland, Clinical Services Coordinator at the Women and Children’s Hospital, the system is essential to the recovery of children like 4 year old Billy.

Billy was admitted to the hospital in January with a ten-day history of very high temperatures and abdominal pain. After numerous procedures and investigations he has now been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, an inflammatory bowel disease. Billy will require special feeds through a nasogastric tube and medications to rest his bowel.

“The monitor assists nursing and medical staff to see children’s heart rhythms and breathing patterns and will give the clinicians greater ability to monitor children’s heart conditions within the ward rather than have to move them to more intensive areas of the hospital,” said Rowland.

“It will enhance cardiac and respiratory care on the ward and enable nurses to preempt and intervene when a child’s condition worsens. We’re extremely grateful for the support of Bakers Delight customers to help us achieve this,” Rowland explains.

Paul Triglau, Bakers Delight Regional Manager SA added, “Easter is by far our busiest time of the year, so it’s a great opportunity to give back to the Women’s & Children’s Hospital Foundation.”

“We’ve set ourselves a goal of surpassing our Bundraiser fundraising effort from last year and we’ll be busy baking to achieve that. We encourage all our customers to make their hot cross bun purchase count on March 24.”

For 32 years Bakers Delight bakers have been baking fresh hot cross buns from scratch, each day in the lead up to Easter, this year will be no different with Traditional, Fruitless and Choc Chip varieties available.
