The newly named Adelaide-based hospitality group, Another Kind, has announced its new leadership team and structure, with internationally renowned hospitality professional James Spreadbury joining as Creative Director, alongside General Manager Meira Harel.
The well-respected and highly experienced pair will oversee the group which includes some of South Australia’s best known and loved dining and drinking destinations including Press Food + Wine, Leigh Street Wine Room and Peel St. They also own and run successful e-commerce wine business, Juice Traders.
Together, Harel and Spreadbury bring decades of experience in building, managing and mentoring teams, establishing culture and building innovative beverage programs. Now, in leading the new group together, their ambitions are to create something innovative and special, informed by their background in service and wine.
Together they want to nurture good culture and provide guidance and inspiration via training and education. Their experience will also assist in breathing new energy into the existing venues and assist in creating a common thread between them. There are plans to continue to grow the group, both in South Australia and beyond.
Harel moved to Adelaide with her family in 2019 and has been working with the group for a year and is now General Manager. Before moving to Adelaide, Harel worked at some of Melbourne’s most renowned and respected venues as sommelier and manager including Lake House and The Town Mouse. Harel also co-founded Grow Assembly in 2016, a hospitality conference focusing on topics like finding balance in a hospitality career.
Spreadbury has recently returned from Europe, where he was Service Director and partner of noma, widely regarded as the world’s most influential restaurant. Spreadbury worked with noma for 12 years and had huge influence on their service and training in particular. He was also responsible for overseeing the team at many of their international residencies, including noma Mexico and noma Australia, and the opening of new venues including POPL.
Harel says: “James and I are thrilled to be working together to lead Another Kind in this important era of growth for the group, the venues and the team. We have both dedicated our entire careers to service, in Australia and internationally, and we are committed to building the best culture possible for our guests and our team.
We are working with our great chefs and managers across our venues at the moment to consolidate the industry-leading work they already do and contribute to raising the bar in Adelaide drinking and dining, to help cement the city as a cultural leader in the hospitality scene.”
Spreadbury, who was born and raised in Adelaide and moved his family home 6 months ago, will work with Harel on innovative training programs to guide and inspire the growing team, as well as the vision and direction for the group as a whole.
Spreadbury says: “I am so excited to be able to return to my hometown of Adelaide after so many years abroad, and join an existing team of dynamic hospitality professionals that make up this ambitious and exciting new group. It has always been apparent to me that people come first in this business, which is what my career has been built around. My role is to help train and inspire the team to understand that no detail is too small, and to help nurture the importance of service and experience.”
