SA Best Pub Burger challenge kicking off today at Rundle Mall

12 hotel finalists will cook-off under the Gawler Place Canopy on Friday 8 July for the title of ‘SA’s Best Pub Burger 2022’.

From a long list of entrants, 12 hotel finalists will cook-off under the Gawler Place Canopy on Friday 8 July for the title of ‘SA’s Best Pub Burger 2022’.

The Best Pub Burger challenge is in its 11th year and is an official Tasting Australia Winter Series event.

Come to the Gawler Place canopy from 11:30 am to see the live final with all the action in front of an expert judging panel.

There will be 4 cooking rounds with 3 hotel finalists cooking in each round as follows:

Round 1 – 11:45am
• ALDINGA HOTEL
• ALMA TAVERN
• ATURA ADELAIDE AIRPORT

Round 2 – 12.00pm
• BELAIR HOTEL
• BRIDGEWAY HOTEL
• FEATHERS HOTEL

Round 3 – 12:15pm
• HOTEL EYRE
• PIER HOTEL GLENELG
• HILTON HOTEL, HILTON

Round 4 – 12:30pm
• STRATHMORE HOTEL
• V HOTEL
• WOODSIDE HOTEL

Once the final round is run, scores will be collated, and the winner will be announced at approximately 12:45pm.

Burgers will be judged against a list of criteria, including presentation of the chef, ingredients and burger, taste, meat content and value for money.

The expert judging panel consists of:
• Shane Wood – Thomas Foods
• Chris Stephan – Pen & Palate
• Johnny Von Einem – CityMag / InDaily

The AHA|SA is the peak industry body representing hotels and related licences in South Australia and represents over 80% of the hotel industry and independent bottle shops.

Members include a diverse range of hospitality focused businesses including traditional metropolitan and regional hotels, smaller bars, accommodation specialists, late night entertainment providers and functions centres.
