SA brands team up to launch limited vibrant red apple cider

Three South Australian brands have come together to turn bright red Adelaide Hills apples into a new, limited-edition cider.

Three South Australian brands have come together to turn bright red Adelaide Hills apples into a new, limited-edition cider – available on tap from the first day of Spring at Bowden Brewing and NOLA.

Redlove Cider is made from Redlove apples, known for their distinct red flesh, grown locally and packed by Lenswood Apples in the Adelaide Hills. Unique in both colour and taste, the cider was produced in collaboration with the experts at LOBO Cider and Bowden Brewing.

“Redlove apples are totally red inside and out and have a fresh, sharp flavour, similar to a Granny Smith,” said Redlove grower and LOBO Cider Director Michael Stafford.

“They’re beautiful on cheeseboards or sliced into a G&T, perfect for pies and crumbles, and we knew they’d make a cracking cider.

“The naturally bright colour and tart flavour of Redlove Cider has exceeded even our expectations – we couldn’t be happier with the end result.”

Bowden Brewing co-head brewer Alex Marschall said Redlove Cider was crafted with the change of season in mind.

“We’re launching this cider on the first day of Spring because it’s exactly what we personally like to drink in warmer weather – dry and moreish with an acidic finish.

“It’s a natural cider, in line with the natural wines and sour beers that patrons are loving at the moment. Unfiltered, no chemicals, colours, or fining agents – pure Redlove juice and LOBO wild yeast culture do all the work.

“We’re now working on incorporating Redlove apples into our cocktail list, blending the cider into a signature drink and garnishing with freeze-dried slices which look amazing.”

With only 22 kegs made of the finished product, cider lovers will have to be quick to get their hands on a pint or cocktail.

Lenswood Apples CEO Jake Parkinson said the collaboration represented “another way to highlight the world-class fruit we grow right here in the pristine Adelaide Hills”.

“It’s been a pleasure working alongside other local producers to showcase this unique variety and offer something new to South Australian consumers,” he said.

“I think we all agree that there’s a lot of potential here – if cider drinkers love it as much as we do, we’ll look to do it all again next season.”

While Redlove apples are available seasonally from March until June, they can also be found on shelves in freeze dried, chocolate covered slices also produced locally by Lenswood Foods and Melba’s Chocolates.
