Sidewood Estate has announced that their 2022 Owen’s Chardonnay has earned a Platinum award the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards 2024, achieving an impressive score of 97. The award places the wine among the top 1% of over 18,000 entries worldwide.
Described as “sophisticated and balanced, with a fine texture and understated finesse”, the 2022 Owen’s Chardonnay has impressed both judges and wine enthusiasts. The grapes for the wine are grown at Mappinga Road in Oakbank, and this is only the fifth vintage produced from these vines.
“We work hard to produce the best wine possible, and it starts with beautiful fruit. We have high touch from grape to glass, and I’m proud this wine in particular,” Winemaker Darryl Catlin said.
“Our wines consistently perform well, having received both local and world-wide recognition. This award places us in the top 1% and reflects our ongoing commitment to excellence and quality. It is testament to our winemakers and our whole team approach,” Sidewood Estate Owner & Vigneron Owen Inglis said.
The Decanter World Wine Awards are known for their rigorous judging process, with hundreds of leading wine experts worldwide selecting the best wines. Achieving a Platinum award is a significant accomplishment.
The 2022 Owen’s Chardonnay has also been honoured with numerous other awards this year, including:
