SA’s very own Infinitus Aero, previously known as Bader Aero, is making a significant milestone towards producing Australia’s first commercially built electric light sport aircraft, the E22 Spark.
This groundbreaking project has taken a leap forward with Infinitus Aero securing access to cutting-edge battery technology through its partnership with Amprius Technologies, a global leader in battery innovation.
Amprius Technologies are a global leader in battery technology who use an exclusive process in manufacturing their batteries that improves life cycle and increases energy density; this will enable Infinitus Aero’s E22 Spark to fly further, for longer.
Additionally, they’ve teamed up with the Australian-based battery integrator Prohelion to prepare the E22 Spark for test flights within the next 90 days.
“I am excited to be part of a high performing team, developing advanced technologies that will put Australia on the global stage in the aviation sector,” CEO Michael Monck said.
This pioneering battery development, coupled with Infinitus Aero’s dedicated test flight program, positions Australia at the forefront of aerospace innovation, harnessing eco-friendly energy sources with a positive impact on our planet.
“Zero emissions is the end goal. Aviation is one of the hardest sectors to abate emissions in… We’ve got really innovative technologies to help that problem. We like to think we’re one of the leaders in the sector to pave a path towards a carbon neutral form of transport,” Monck said.
“Each one of us has a responsibility to look after the place we live in. This technology is one of the contributions I can make, and I believe my co-workers share that vision.”
Monck says that in some ways Infinitus Aero has been in the making for 5 – 10 years, now with a team of 10 getting the aircraft to the flying stage.
“I’ve always been passionate about aviation and people getting involved in the industry. As Leonardo da Vinci once said. ‘When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. [For there you have been, and there you will always long to return.]’,” Monck says.
Another benefit of the new aircraft technology is it’s quiet.
“We’re going to make noise about not making a lot of noise – the aircraft is also almost silent in the sky. You’ll see us well before you hear us,” Monck says.
The development of Infinitus Aero’s E22 Spark and subsequent products will create jobs locally and Australia wide for homegrown talent, such as STEM University of South Australia graduate Shaun Pontifex who says “I’m so grateful to have an opportunity to work within this revolutionary company, right here in South Australia but making a difference in aviation and the environment globally.”
Infinitus Aero co-founder Barrie Rogers, current holder of several records for electric powered aircraft, said “Electric flight has come a long way over the last decade and this latest development in technology will continue to see Infinitus Aero push the boundaries of what is possible.”
