The SA Designer’s Fashion Showcase celebrates the creativity of South Australian designers and also gives emerging designers the opportunity to showcase a collection to compete for the title of Adelaide’s best Emerging Designer for 2013.

After guests had mingled, topped up their drinks and found their seats, the show was ready to begin.

Emerging designers from Casper and Pearl, Willow and Grace, Georgia Guy, Morning Theft, Designer Duchess, Namoi, Thembekile and Orbin presented their collections for the judges and guests, showing that high-quality talent can certainly be found here in Adelaide.

Some designers opted for an edgy look, such as faux fur vests, faux leather pants and long faux fur coats which lent a vintage glam feel, while others featured more classic, feminine designs with long flowing dresses, embroidery and lace.

After an interval, the second part of the parade began. Designers from Cameo, Necia, Keepsake, Yvonne Faye, Jaggar, Finders Keepers, Liza Emanuele, Malachi Empire and Couture + Love + Madness showed their collections while the judges deliberated on their decision for the best Emerging Designer winner.

The final part of the parade was a celebration of George Gross and Harry Who’s 40th anniversary.

For 40 years their fashion partnership has provided women with flattering, luxurious designs, and their Spring/Summer collection of long gowns, bright colours and shimmering beads dazzled guests.

After the parade came the awards for the night, with Thembekile as the runner-up and Georgia Guy being crowned Adelaide’s best Emerging Designer.

The celebration afterwards was a chance for people to relax after working so hard to keep this year’s Adelaide Fashion Festival running smoothly, particular for Cristina Tridente, coordinator of the Fashion Festival and also designer of Couture + Love + Madness. Her ability to manage the entire festival plus her collection for the Designer Showcase is inspirational and while the Fashion Festival is over for another year, you can bet that under her care, next year’s festival will be just as successful.
