November is World Vegan Month, and in celebration, we’ve taken a closer look at a recent study by Gozney on Australia’s Best Locations for Vegan and Vegetarian Dining. As more Australians become mindful of their health and the environment, plant-based eating continues to rise in popularity. The demand for vegan-friendly meals is on the rise, with new dining options popping up all the time to meet to this growing trend.
Gozney’s study analysed 48 of Australia’s most populous locations, ranking them based on the number of restaurants offering vegan and vegetarian options, including vegan pizzas and restaurants with four-star ratings or higher. They also looked at the volume of Google searches for vegan and vegetarian terms, from restaurant searches to pizza recipes.
Among the top 20, SA’s Adelaide Hills secured a spot at number 9!
The Adelaide Hills has a whole heap of restaurants, cafes, and local markets that cater to vegan and vegetarian diets. Many eateries in the Adelaide Hills focus on fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced produce, with sustainable and ethical ingredients taking centre stage. If you’re looking for vegan-friendly dining options in the Adelaide Hills, the Australian Good Food Guide has a great list here!
Plus, with stunning landscapes and an eco-conscious vibe, the Adelaide Hills stands out as a great destination for anyone following a plant-based lifestyle.
According to the study, the Adelaide Hills has 346 restaurants serving meat-free dishes. On average, the region offers 57.3 restaurants with vegan and vegetarian options for every 10,000 people. Of those, 47 restaurants have a rating of four stars or higher. For pizza lovers, there are 2.8 restaurants offering vegan or vegetarian pizza options. The Adelaide Hills sees an average of 199 Google searches related to vegan and vegetarian dining each year.
Surprisingly, Australia’s major cities don’t lead the charge when it comes to vegan and vegetarian dining. While each capital city does of course have a wide variety of plant-based options, the number of restaurants serving meat-free dishes falls short in comparison to their large populations. As a state, South Australia ranked fourth out of five when it comes to the best states for plant-based eaters.
