SA Fire Ban Districts have officially been extended

Three of the 15 South Australian Fire Ban Districts have been extended until 30 April 2023

Three of the 15 South Australian Fire Ban Districts have been extended until 30 April 2023 following a consultation with all Bushfire Management Committees, CFS Community Risk and Resilience Director, Alison May.

The following restrictions have just been announced:

  • Eastern Eyre – extended two weeks until 30 April 2023
  • Lower Eyre Peninsula – extended two weeks until 30 April 2023
  • West Coast – extended two weeks until 30 April 2023

These fire ban extensions are due to significant amounts of broadacre burning taking place in some regions, combined with the current level of dry fuels and remaining high fuel loads.

“With the current high amount of dry fuel loads remaining across some regions, burns will continue to limit the fuel load before the next Fire Danger Season,” Ms May said.

“Risk management strategies like this are especially important after the recent end of La Nina and the potential shift to hot, dry weather next summer, making bushfires more likely.”

Ms May said that an aerial response will remain in place during this extension, she also advised that anyone wishing to do broadacre burning must comply with the Code of Practice.

It is an opportune time to start planning for the next Fire Danger Season by thinking about general fire safety maintenance around the home and property and updating Bushfire Survival Plans.
