SA Government to re-home surplus technology with Digital Device Program

Now in round 47, the digital re-homing program will see devices provided to not-for-profit organisations that aim to benefit the South Australian community.

Community-based not-for-profit organisations in SA can now apply for surplus government computers and laptops thanks to the governments Digital Donation Program.

The Digital Donation program assists South Australian community-based organisations in accessing devices, re-homing spare government computers in an initiative that not only helps the wider community but decreases mounting technology waste.

Now in round 47, the digital re-homing program will see a maximum of three devices provided to community organisations that aim to benefit South Australian’s. However, depending on government stock levels, organisations may not receive the desired amount of devices requested.

While the program is free for not-for-profits, additional computer equipment or upgrades will be at the expense of the organisation.

Up for grabs will be, at a minimum, an HP 800 G1 Core i5 with Windows 10 and antivirus software installed. Portable laptops will also be available, albeit limited.

Committed to ensuring digital devices do not wind up in landfills, recipients of the re-homed products are encouraged to return the laptops and computers to the Burton Computer Recycling Warehouse at the end of their life span.

Hopeful applicants must highlight why receiving a surplus device will benefit the greater South Australian community – whether this is for enhancing support services for the vulnerable and elderly or training and development in volunteer programs.

Organisations striving to improve quality of life or assisting special populations such as Aboriginal communities and disability action and support groups also qualify for the surplus donation program.

The fine print states that not-for-profits must be incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act or Aboriginal Councils Associations Act, a statutory authority, local government authority or a progress association.

Schools, universities, commercial enterprises or applications noting personal use do not qualify for the Digital Donation Program.

If successful, an organisation cannot re-apply for devices for another twelve months to ensure that the re-homed computers are distributed evenly across SA.

Applications for the program close at 5 pm on Friday, September 24.
