Curjo Hair at Prospect has been voted among the top 50 most sustainable hair salons in the world by organic and sustainable hair brand, Oway.
Oway, who specialise in eco-conscious and sustainable hair care, selected 50 salons from around the globe that share its commitment to sustainability and offer a zero-impact wellness experience.
Among the 50 nominees chosen by Oway, only three are from Australia, with Curjo Hair proudly representing SA. Oway recognises hair salons like Curjo Hair as pioneers in creating a post-plastic world, with a focus on eliminating plastics from the hair salon environment.
Curjo Hair are leading the way in sustainable salon practices and stand out as a shining example of a hair dresser that not only priorities eco-friendly practices, but also excels in them.
The salon uses glass bottles to replace plastic, and have a refill station that allows customers to fill their empty containers, reducing waste and promoting reuse.
In an industry that struggles with waste, Curjo Hair aims to close the loop on environmental impact of hair salons by opting for recycled aluminium foils.
They’ve also partnered with Sustainable Salons where profits from recycled materials go to organisations like OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest, ensuring that waste materials are repurposed effectively.
“The sustainability just domino effects people’s lives, and I think everyone likes to hear that they’re helping just by getting their hair done,” Joe Curzi, Director or Curjo Hair says.
While Curjo Hair’s products are sustainable and innovative, they are still high-performing.
“I’m very much a perfectionist in what we do, so we wanted it to still be high-performing,” Joe Curzi says.
“I wanted to change the game in the industry… it stems from me not wanting to be around any harsh chemicals with our services in our colours and aerosol cans.
“I just thought, being around that everyday, it’s not going to be good for us.”
Curjo Hair recently celebrated its first birthday and has continued to flourish since its opening in May 2023.
