SA Health to offer an additional Covid-19 Winter dose to eligible South Australians

Following the expansion of eligibility criteria by ATAGI, SA Health vaccination clinics will now offer an additional Winter Covid-19 dose.

As Winter approaches so too does the presence of cold and flu-related illness which has led SA Health to combat the likeliness with the addition of a COVID-19 Winter dose for those most at risk.

SA Health vaccination clinics will offer an additional winter COVID-19 dose to more South Australians following the expansion of eligibility criteria by ATAGI.

The winter dose is now available to people aged 16 to 64 who have a complex, chronic or severe condition that increases their risk of severe illness from COVID-19. South Australians are encouraged to check the new eligibility criteria and to get their winter dose if they are now eligible, to ensure they have the additional protection over the colder months.

Other people aged 16 to 64 years, who do not have a risk factor for severe COVID-19, can feel confident that three doses will provide sufficient protection.

The SA Health vaccination clinics will offer winter doses to additional eligible groups from today.

Additional eligible groups include people with:

• Immunocompromising conditions

• Cancer

• Specific chronic inflammatory conditions

• Chronic lung disease

• Chronic liver disease

• Severe chronic kidney disease

• Chronic neurological disease

• Diabetes requiring medication

• Chronic cardiac disease

• People with disability with significant or complex health needs or multiple comorbidities which increase the risk of poor outcomes from COVID-19

• Severe obesity

• Severely underweight

People who were already eligible for a COVID-19 winter booster include:

• Aged 65+

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander aged 50+

• Residents of an aged care or disability care facility

• Severely immunocompromised and aged 16+
