SA is making its pitch to host the AFL Grand Final, ahead of restrictions easing at midnight tonight

The Premier stated Adelaide Oval’s management of large crowds during the COVID-19 pandemic, and South Australia’s football history, has put the state in a good position for the pitch.

Today, South Australia will be making its pitch to host the 2020 AFL Grand Final.

“You’ve got to be in it to win it, and we are absolutely in it,” said Premier Steven Marshall.

The Premier stated Adelaide Oval’s effective management of large crowds during the COVID-19 pandemic, and South Australia’s football history, has put the state in a good position for the pitch.

Approximately nine million people in 100 countries are expected to tune into the AFL Grand Final, making it one of the largest global sporting events to take place this year.

Further restrictions are set to ease as of midnight tonight, as the Premier confirmed there are no current COVID-19 cases along the South Australian/Victorian border.

The most significant adjustment to the restrictions is the relaxation of South Australia’s strict border arrangements with residents deemed to be cross border community members.

A 40km buffer zone will be established, allowing cross border community members in this zone to travel into South Australia.

The restrictions on home gatherings will also be relaxed, with the limit increased to 50 people, and those travelling into South Australia from other safe zones in the country will be able to transit through Sydney Airport and Canberra Airport.

More to come.
