AFL chief Gillon McLachlan has revealed the 2020 AFL Grand Final will be played in Queensland, at the Gabba.

For the first time in history, the AFL Grand Final will not be held in Victoria.

AFL chief Gillon McLachlan has revealed the 2020 AFL Grand Final will be played in Queensland, at the Gabba.

In another first, the Grand Final will be played at night, with the date set for Saturday, October 24.

McLachlan thanked the states for their bids to host the highly anticipated game, and ongoing support.

“The presentations were outstanding, and the decision, extraordinarily difficult,” he said.

Given the constant adaptation needed given the COVID-19 pandemic, the AFL has also announced a contingency plan, should Queensland no longer be able to host a crowd for the Grand Final.

In this case, South Australia’s Adelaide Oval will act as the back up venue.
