SA Motorsport Board revs up with key appointment ahead of this year’s Adelaide 500

“I think the experience I bring and the major event know-how we have in South Australia will ensure we will stage an outstanding season finale over the four days in December.” Warren says.

Experienced motorsport administrator Mark Warren has been named as Chief Executive for the State Government’s new South Australian Motorsport Board, tasked with delivering the Adelaide 500.

The SAMB is responsible for the return of the highly anticipated Supercars race, which will roar back onto city streets in the final race of the season.

Premier Peter Malinauskas expresses his anticipation for the upcoming event, as well as the new appointment.

“The return of the Adelaide 500 will give a vital boost to CBD hotels, cafes, restaurants, bars and the city economy more broadly.

“I look forward to working with Mark and the South Australian Motorsport Board to ensure our State once again becomes a leader in staging major motorsport events.” Malinauskas says.

Mr Warren was previously Chief Executive of the original South Australian Motorsport Board from 2010 to 2016, before overseeing the completion and successful launch of The Bend Motorsport Park as the venue’s inaugural general manager.

“I’ve been drawn back to the role because of my passion for the Adelaide 500 and a vision to make it into something even bigger than it has been in its past.

“I think the experience I bring and the major event know-how we have in South Australia will ensure we will stage an outstanding season finale over the four days in December.” Warren says.

He now returns to the re-formed SAMB and will deliver its vision alongside the Board’s Chair, Andrew Daniels.

“Mark has a rare combination of marketing and engineering expertise that has made him one of Australia’s most respected motorsport administrators, so we’re absolutely delighted that we’ve been able to lure him back to the role.

‘Adelaide has a national and global reputation for major event excellence, and we know how to rise to a challenge.” Daniels says.

Mr Warren will also help drive the return of other major events like the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in 2023.

Supercars CEO Shane Howard offers his excitement to the upcoming Adelaide 500 and the new appointment.

“The Adelaide 500 has always been a stand-out on the Supercars calendar and we’re absolutely thrilled that we will be finishing the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship around the streets of Adelaide.

“We’re delighted to congratulate Mark on his new role, and we will do whatever is necessary to support him and ensure we return the Adelaide event to its very best.” Howard says.

The Adelaide 500 will be held from December 1-4 this year.
