South Australian distilling company 1946 Distilling, formerly known as Vittorio Spirits, has unveiled plans for their new home on Port Road.

“It’s set to be more than just a classic distillery,” Gina from 1946 Distilling explains. “It’s a family business, it started in West Croydon, and now we’re building in Woodville. We envision it as a vibrant hub for various events including multicultural nights once a month.”

Currently with appointment-only bookings for tastings, Gina envisions the new venue to be a consumer-facing space that invites visitors to immerse themselves in the world of 1946 Distilling. “You’ll be able to walk in and you can have tastings, buy our products, and even discover our range of wines, which many people don’t know about yet,” she says.

The expansion to Port Road represents strong growth and a commitment to preserving a legacy for future generations. “We want this new distillery to carry on our family’s tradition and values,” Gina shares.

Originally led by the visionary craftsman Tom Christopoulos, 1946 Distilling has garnered widespread acclaim for its range of traditionally made Greek-style spirits. Drawing on ancient recipes dating back to 330 AD, Tom and his family have breathed new life into the age-old art of distillation.

Since its inception in 2016, 1946 Distilling has swiftly risen to prominence within the Australian spirits community, amassing over 30 major awards from the country’s highest spirit associations.

With a dedication to excellence and an unwavering commitment to preserving tradition, 1946 Distilling has become a staple in the nation’s best liquor stores, including select Dan Murphy and BWS outlets, as well as on Amazon Australia.

The announcement of their new distillery on Port Road marks a new chapter for the brand. Designed by Aspire Building Design and Drafting, the project is set to be completed by 2025.

1946 Distilling’s new distillery is not the only development shaping the landscape of Port Road.

“The property we’re developing is already owned by us, and we saw it as an opportunity to revitalise the space,” Gina says. “Being in the western suburbs and right near the heart of Adelaide, it makes it a convenient stop for locals on the way home or to the beach. It’s something different in the west, and we’re excited to be a part of it.”

There are also plans to develop 26 properties in the same location, meaning the distillery would service a range of people living on the venue’s doorstep.

Located at the corner of Oval Avenue and Port Road, the new distillery will not only serve as a production facility but also as a community hub. “We’re thrilled to extend the brand and share our passion for spirits with even more people,” Gina say.

As construction on the new distillery progresses with them currently working on demolishing what’s already there, you can still enjoy their products through various distributors and outlets in South Australia and around the country.
