SA’s hard border closure to remain as Victoria records highest daily case numbers yet

The Premier said the border to Victoria, NSW, and ACT will not be lifted until SA Health and Professor Nicola Spurrier are sure the time is right.

South Australian Premier Steven Marshall has confirmed the state’s border will remain closed to Victoria, New South Wales, and the Australian Capital Territory, as the nation sits on high alert due to rising COVID-19 case numbers.

The announcement comes after the Transition Committee met yesterday, with the Premier stating the hard border with Victoria in particular will stay in place for some time.

Today, Victoria recorded 428 new infections, the highest daily case increase since the pandemic hit Australia.

According to the Premier, South Australia’s border to Victoria, NSW, and ACT will not be lifted until SA Health and Professor Nicola Spurrier are sure the time is right.

With NSW reinstating some restrictions as of next Friday, the Premier stated if this becomes necessary in South Australia, steps will certainly be taken.

The Premier also confirmed that the four stowaways who were apprehended after making it into the state have now returned to Victoria.

As of yesterday, South Australia has one active case of COVID-19, however the woman is not contagious and is in isolation.
