The Chiton restaurant on Hindmarsh Esplanade recently celebrated their 1st birthday by giving back. During service, co-owners and couple Phillip and Cassie decided to keep all dockets that came through, put them in a barrel, mix -em up, and pick one at random to fully refund.

“The winner was really really happy about it, so my partner rang him up and told him we’re refunding him. We do it from our end, we just went through our point of sale and do the refund. They had two sauvignon blanc wines, an entree, couple of mains, it was around $160” shares Phillip.

Phil & Cassie Cowdrey who owned the highly acclaimed Pelican Bistro at the Goolwa Surf Life Saving Club, have created The Chiton to feature Aussie classics that are based in good quality ingredients all which are made in-house.

This seaside restaurant on the Fleurieu is the perfect spot to visit and enjoy a delicious meal with a side of spectacular views.

“We do live music every Friday nights, we have a saxophone player that does blues, couple of acoustic guitar players, and a three piece band that are on rotation” says Phillip.

On warm days, you can wander down the mere 6 steps to the beach, and have a swim. Then wash up, dry off, and wander back to have a cold beer. And on weekends, the iconic Cockle Train passes four or five times a day, proving to be super popular for kids and families.

And if it doesn’t get any better, co-owner Cassie is a pastry chef by trade – and so all the cakes, and pastries are made in house, by scratch.

“We class ourselves as a destination point because it takes a bit to get to us. In saying so, we pride ourselves in that we use fresh seafood, make our jus, stocks, brioche rolls, Turkish breads, desserts, ice creams, everything is made in house” says Phillip.

So, with the weather warming up, and Summer around the corner, there’s no better time to get along to the newest restaurant on the Fleurieu!
