SA Scores Six Listings In 2019 Wineslinger Awards

The Top 50 is decided by a team of 100 wine and hospitality experts, comprised of winemakers, sommeliers, and journalists

Young Gun of Wine has revealed the 2019 Wineslinger Top 50 Venues list, featuring six South Australian hotspots.

Known as “the wine guru’s guide to the best haunts across Australia right now”, the Top 50 is decided by a team of 100 wine and hospitality experts, comprised of winemakers, sommeliers, and journalists. The trophy winners will be chosen from the Top 50.

“This list provides the insider’s guide to the places that the toughest critics in wine choose to have a ripping time,” says Young Gun of Wine founder Rory Kent. “They’re restaurants, bars and pubs that bring energy, adventure and approachability to wine enjoyment.”

Kent says the venues on the list are places “defined by fun, not formality.”

“The size of your wine list isn’t what gets you onto the Top 50,” he says. “It’s the sum of the parts. It’s the wine concept, the food, the staff, the setting, and that special something.”

South Australian venues acknowledged on the list include Africola, East End Cellars, The Exeter, Hellbound, Mother Vine, and The Summertown Aristologist.

Following the announcement of the Top 50, voting will open to the public for the People’s Choice Award. Voters will go into the draw to win prizes such as a tour and taste with the Henschkes at the Hill of Grace vineyard, and a stay at the luxury Mitchelton Hotel with a winemaking experience in the historic cellars of Tahbilk.

There’s even an opportunity to determine the final blend of the 2019 Ocean Eight Pinot Noir with winemaker Mike Aylward on the Mornington Peninsula.

Those interesting in voting for the People’s Choice can do so here. Voting closes on Monday 28 October at midday.

This year’s Wineslinger awards include, of course, the ‘Wineslinger’ as well as the publicly voted ‘People’s Choice’. New trophy additions are the ‘ Best New Act’ and the ‘Maverick’, recognising a venue “pushing the boundaries of possibility.”. The winners will be revealed at the Wineslinger Awards ceremony on Monday, 28 October.
