SA sees 1000s of new jobs created, outpacing national trends in employment growth

In March, South Australia added 5,100 jobs, and kept a low unemployment rate.

South Australia’s job market experienced substantial growth in March, with 5,100 jobs created during the month. This brings the total number of people employed in the state to 964,700.

The data, released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, shows a remarkable total of 66,600 jobs created over the past year—that’s greater than the capacity of Adelaide Oval!

These figures were accompanied by an increase in the labour force participation rate, which rose by 0.4 percentage points to 63.6 percent in the same month. Of those employed, 632,600 are in full-time work.

South Australia’s unemployment rate rose slightly to 4 percent in March, up by 0.2 percentage points. However, it remains lower than the national rate of 4.1 percent. The small rise comes as more people look for work, which is a sign of a growing job market.

Jobs and Skills Australia reports that the number of internet vacancies in South Australia increased by 0.8 percent in March. This trend contrasts with the national average, which saw a 2.5 percent decrease in internet job vacancies during the same period.

Treasurer Stephen Mullighan said, “It’s pleasing to see thousands more jobs being created in South Australia, demonstrating the strength of the state’s economy.

“Despite national economic headwinds, South Australia’s unemployment rate remains at near-record lows,” he continued.

“The increase in internet job vacancies should give South Australians looking for work confidence that there are still plenty of opportunities to gain employment,” he added.

These job numbers show how South Australia’s economy is tracking and point to good news for job seekers. There are more jobs and a wider range of opportunities, suggesting the state’s economy is growing and its workforce is getting stronger.
