SA set to sizzle as hot weather on the horizon

The mercury is set to rise steadily in the coming days, hinting at an impending heatwave.

Adelaide residents, it’s time to prepare for a sizzling week. Today’s partly cloudy skies with a high of 23°C might seem mild, but the mercury is set to rise steadily in the coming days, hinting at an impending heatwave.

Saturday is forecasted to be sunny with a high of 23°C, but by Sunday, the city will experience a warmer 25°C. As we transition into the new week, temperatures are expected to soar, with Monday seeing 27°C, and by Friday, brace yourselves for a scorching 35°C.

This upward trend in temperatures is in line with predictions for November to January, which indicate warmer days and nights for most parts of Australia. South Australia is no exception. The State Emergency Service (SASES) has already started issuing heatwave warnings for various districts in South Australia, aligning with the bushfire warning districts. These warnings range from Advice level for low-intensity heatwaves to Emergency Warning level messages for extreme heatwaves.

Given the anticipated heat, residents are urged to take precautions. Historically, heatwaves have been Australia’s deadliest natural hazard. It’s crucial to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight during peak hours, and never leave children or pets unattended in parked cars. Vulnerable family members, especially the elderly, should be registered with services like the Red Cross Telecross REDi service for added safety.

With the heatwave looming, it’s not just about staying cool but staying safe. Make sure you look out for each other.
