SA Short Films On Show For The Reel Event 2017

Magill Sunrise Rotary’s 6th Annual Reel Event Showcases South Australian Short Films, with all Proceeds to Youth & Homelessness Programs

Now in its sixth year, The Reel Event is set for its biggest screening yet, with a new Sunday afternoon timeslot on May 21st.

Initiated by the Rotary Club of Magill Sunrise, the event not only showcases the best local films of the year – all made by South Australian filmmakers – but raises funds for the club’s homelessness and youth programs.

This year’s event partners include the Hutt Street Centre and Eastern Adelaide Domestic Violence Service, as well as the Rotary youth leadership programs RYLA (for 18-25 year olds) and RYPEN (for 15-18 year olds).

For just $25, attendees can enjoy afternoon tea and drinks, a Q&A session with the filmmakers, and some amazing local films.

This year’s films are a combination of drama, comedy, animation and documentary. The filmmakers come from a wide range of backgrounds – from young film students through to two established directors whose short films have been nominated for the Australian Academy Awards and shortlisted for the Oscars.

Kirsty Stark, President of the Rotary Club of Magill Sunrise, said “We have an incredible depth of filmmaking talent here in South Australia, but there are very few opportunities to see short films like these in a cinema.”

“For our club, The Reel Event is a fantastic opportunity to support local filmmakers, and to also give back to the community through our Reel Event partners.”

The Reel Event takes place on May 21st at the Regal Cinema, Kensington. A pre-screening afternoon tea and drinks are included in the ticket price, and the films are followed by a Q&A session with the filmmakers.
