SA Sign Memorandum Of Understanding For Special Olympics

South Australia is the first state to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Special Olympics South Australia (SOSA) and Riding for the Disabled South Australia (RDA-SA). This MOU gives new sporting and competition pathway for RDA-SA riders and SOSA members and volunteers will benefit with the opportunity of experiencing a new sport in the world of Equestrian.

“We have a large number of riders with an intellectually disability so it’s fantastic we can formalise an agreement with SOSA and give our riders more pathways and opportunities to compete.”  Says Jill Ribbons, President of the RDA-SA.

State Manager for the SOSA, Lisa Hester, claims that they are working with a big number of organisations to bring more sporting opportunities to the 6400 intellectually disabled in South Australia.

“We are thrilled we can now add equestrian to our sporting program.  This MOU will not only give our members new experiences and opportunities as they benefit from the skills and experience of RDA but they will also benefit from the therapeutic qualities horses give to the intellectually disabled.”  Explains Lisa.
