SA tightens border closures with QLD added to the list

Travellers arriving from Queensland are now prohibited from entering South Australia unless the person is a permitted arrival or essential traveller.

South Australian Police issued an update yesterday on the developing border restrictions with Queensland, adding them to the list of tightening border closures across the nation.

Travellers arriving from Queensland are now prohibited from entering South Australia unless the person is a permitted arrival or essential traveller. This comes following Queensland ending their most recent lockdown yesterday.

Those allowed to travel into South Australia will need to have exemption granted for reasons including essential travel for work.

Permitted Arrivals and Essential Travellers are subject to Level 4 requirements:
• COVID-19 test on day 1, 5, & 13.
• Self-quarantine for 14 days.
• Must wear a face mask (covering mouth and nose) at any time that they come into contact with the public for a period of 14 days after their arrival in SA.

If travelling by road, permitted arrivals and essential travellers are only permitted to enter on prescribed roads being the Birdsville Track, Maree or the Barrier Highway, Oodla Wirra (excluding commercial transport and freight operators).

Note: Travellers who have not been in Greater Brisbane, Cairns or Yarrabah Local Government Areas in the past 14 days were able to enter South Australia under Level 3 requirements until last night.

The Emergency Management (Cross Border Travel—Associated Direction No 38) COVID-19) Direction 2021 has been revoked and replaced by the Emergency Management (Cross Border Travel—Associated Direction No 39) (COVID-19) (COVID-19) Direction 2021. This came into effect at 2.30 pm on 8 August 2021.
