If you’re a lover of all things marmalade, then you’d be one of the many people obsessed with making and devouring the zesty, citrus-based jam and interested to know that the nations best marmalades have been named. The winners of the 2021 Australian Marmalade Awards have been announced, with four winners from South Australia, the most of any state.
Australia’s top marmalades were judged by a panel of experts at Beaumont House this month, with the 2021 Champions to be announced at a later date. More than 250 entries were received from across Australia, with separate competitions for artisan and home-made producers of marmalade.
In the Artisan competition the following marmalades received a Gold Award
Irene Noakes – of ‘Gourmet to Go’ (in our very own Central Market) won joint Gold for her seville orange marmalade and savoury orange marmalade.
In the home-made competition the following entrants received a Gold Award:
Andy Wall – Victoria for his lime marmalade
Julie Rubenhold – SA for her Tahitian lime and lemon, and also for her Seville orange and tangelo marmalade.
Elizabeth Wyllie – Victoria for her Seville orange marmalade.
Linda Costa – Queensland for her Ruby grapefruit marmalade.
Bill Knight – WA for his Seville orange marmalade.
Mike Steele – SA for his Seville orange marmalade.
Sarala Divakaran – SA for her Seville orange marmalade.
Catherine Hasson – WA for her Seville orange marmalade, and also for her lemon and lime marmalade.
Rosemary Oborn – SA for her Grapefruit and brandy marmalade.
Samples of these winning marmalades are on their way to the UK, where they will be judged to decide the overall Champion of marmalade making! They’ll be revealed at an awards presentation ceremony to be announced soon.
