More than 1,650 entries have been submitted in the "My SA‟ competition by South Australians keen to show off their best local holiday photos, stories and videos online.

The competition, launched by the South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC) on May 24, closed last Friday after a surge of last-minute entries.

South Australians were encouraged to upload their best holiday experiences and 200 winning entries will be featured on the SATC's brand new website, southaustralia.com, in coming months.

“We‟ve been overwhelmed by the response and the extraordinary quality of the entries we‟ve received,” SATC Marketing Director, David O'Loughlin says.

“There is so much energy, colour and excitement in the videos and photos – it shows people really are having some awesome experiences around our State.

“The stories are so genuine and the themes so diverse and unique to South Australia – this is exactly the type of material we want to share with Australia and the rest of the world.

“The highlights of this amazing content will be infused through the brand new southaustralia.com so potential visitors can be inspired and informed by the people who know this State the best.”

Approximately half of the 200 winning entries have already been awarded, with the remainder to be announced by August 13. Winning entrants receive a $200 travel voucher to spend on their next South Australian holiday.

Winning entries so far feature South Australia‟s best destinations, landscapes and experiences, as well as some of the State‟s unique events including the Riverland Balloon Fiesta, the Northern Lights (part of the Adelaide Festival of Arts), the International Kite Flying Festival, the Carrieton Rodeo and the Classic Targa Adelaide (formerly known as the Classic Adelaide Rally).

“The focus on SA's events and festivals is testament to our reputation for hosting outstanding events in outstanding locations, whether in the unique city parklands or in one of our many diverse but easily accessible regional destinations,” Mr O'Loughlin says.

“The entries really capture the spirit of a South Australian holiday: the freedom of the coast, the adventure of the Outback, the intimacy of our wine regions, the majesty of the Murray River and the natural wonders of our landscape and wildlife.

“Thank you so much to everyone who‟s been involved – we‟ve had a fantastic time reliving fond memories and being re-inspired as we‟ve sorted through all the entries,” Mr O'Loughlin says.

All entries remain viewable at http://mysa.southaustralia.com/Entry.
