The State U18 Girls Team has created South Australian football history after remaining undefeated throughout the 2022 NAB AFLW U18 National Championships.

After comfortably defeating Western Australia and Victoria Country in the opening two matches, the Croweaters made it three in succession with a hard-fought three-point win against Victoria Metro at Avalon Airport Oval in Werribee today.

SANFL Head of Talent Brenton Phillips said SA’s outstanding campaign was testimony to the strength and depth of female youth talent in South Australia, auguring well for the future of South Australian teams in the AFLW.

Coached by Magarey Medallist Tim Weatherald, the youthful South Australian line-up won all three of its matches by an average margin of 59 points.

“The strength of South Australia’s success at the Championships is built on the back of our eight SANFL clubs and the tremendous development of the Hostplus SANFLW League,” said Phillips.

“The addition of the SANFLW Development League this year, coupled with the ongoing development from U16 and U14 level, has certainly rocketed us into being a championship-winning team.

“We are immensely proud of what the girls have achieved, guided by SA U18 Coach Tim Weatherald, SANFL Female Talent Manager Robbie Neill and the entire SANFL talent staff.”

Woodville-West Torrens midfielder Shineah Goody was named South Australia’s Most Valuable Player of the Championships.

The 2022 NAB AFLW National Championships concludes on April 30 when Queensland hosts the Allies at Metricon Stadium.

The Player of the Championships medal will be awarded to the competition’s most outstanding performer following the final game, along with the announcement of the U18 Girls All-Australian team.
