SA unveils $40m luxury resort on private Louth Island

In 2025, South Australia is set to unveil a groundbreaking destination – Rumi on Louth, the state’s first luxury eco resort located on the private Louth Island.

This ambitious project, spearheaded by entrepreneur Che Metcalfe, is transforming an erstwhile sheep farm into an exclusive haven of eco-friendly luxury.

Louth Island, a mere 10-minute journey from Port Lincoln, has long been a hidden gem. Metcalfe, known for his role as co-founder of Uniti Group, saw the potential of this island not just as a personal retreat but as a unique opportunity to share its beauty with the world.

“When the opportunity of Louth Island came to light, I knew I couldn’t keep it all to myself. This stunning island had to be shared with the world”, says Metcalfe, whose entrepreneurial spirit stems from his background as co-founder of Uniti Group.

His vision has led to a 40-million-dollar investment, focusing on sustainability and ecological preservation.

Rumi on Louth is a testament to Metcalfe’s commitment to the environment. The resort is entirely solar-powered, with comprehensive recycling and composting systems in place. This dedication extends to the culinary experience, with the resort’s restaurant featuring fresh, locally sourced seafood.

The resort’s ethos goes beyond mere luxury; it’s about creating a symbiotic relationship with the island’s natural environment. “It’s not just about building a resort – it’s about committing to the protection and preservation of Louth Island,” Metcalfe emphasizes.

What’s most important is making sure the development considers the ecology of the island. It’s not just about building a resort – it’s about committing to the protection and preservation of Louth Island, for years to come”, says Metcalfe, spearheading the project with his passion for conservation.

For intrepid travellers keen to get an exclusive glimpse of this eco paradise, the prelude to the Rumi on Louth opening, Rumi Reveal, has officially launched today.

“We’re thrilled to be able to expand on this region’s incredible tourism offering and boslter national visitation with our immersive island experiences and accommodation offering”, Metcalfe said.

Rumi Reveal offers a range of experiences, from day trips featuring kayaking and fishing tours to luxurious overnight stays.

Guests can indulge in six-course degustation menus at the onsite restaurant, Samphire, and enjoy activities like luxury cruises, island tours, electric biking, and sailing kayaks. The two-night accommodation package includes all meals and a range of activities, ensuring a fully immersive experience.

With limited places available for the Rumi Reveal experience, this is an exclusive opportunity to witness the birth of a new era in sustainable tourism in South Australia.

What awaits is the promise of an extraordinary island experience, an escape from the ‘real world’, and a suspended state of deep discovery, surrounded by untouched wilderness.
