One of Australia’s leading hospitality design awards, the Eat Drink Design Awards, has just announced the businesses shortlisted for 2024’s awards. 64 businesses across Australia have received nominations, with South Australian venues receiving two: one for Best Bar Design, and another for Best Restaurant Design.
Every year, the Eat Drink Awards celebrate and honour achievements in interior design, inspecting hundreds of Australian businesses to unveil the country’s finest interior designers and their works of arts. In 2024, the judges are looking at seven categories: Best Bar Design, Best Restaurant Design, Best Cafe Design, Best Installation Design, Best Hotel Design, Best Retail Design, and Best Identity Design.
The Best Bar Design category recognises achievement in the design of a bar, cocktail lounge or nightclub. Among the 13 Australian venues shortlisted for 2024’s Best Bar Design is SA’s Latteria, designed by Studio Gram. Located on Hutt Street, Latteria is a contemporary take on traditional Milanese Latterias, blending the timeless charm of 1950’s “Latterie Milanesi” with a fresh Adelaidean twist.
The venue serves as a gathering place for work and leisure, a nostalgic meeting spot where the community can feel at home, blending past and present in a welcoming space.
Latteria is the only bar in South Australia nominated for the award, competing with 12 other venues from other Australian states. Amongst the competition is Busselton Pavilion (WA), designed by MJA Studio, Bar Besuto (NSW), designed by Tom Mark Henry, and Amphora (VIC), designed by Hachem Architecture.
For Best Restaurant Design, a category that celebrates achievements in the interior design of a restaurant, LVN Restaurant at Bird in Hand Winery was nominated alongside 22 other Australian restaurants. Designed by Georgie Shepherd Interior Design with an emphasis on connection to nature and a celebration of local culture, LVN Restaurant welcomes diners via a spectacular garden to a warm and light-filled space with a refined sensory feeling. Applying a language of detail and texture throughout, a comforting glow is artfully balanced with bold, bespoke design.
Other Australian restaurants nominated for Best Restaurant Design include Alfies (NSW), designed by Tom Mark Henry, Antara 128 (VIC), designed by Kerstin Thompson Architects, and emme (QLD), designed by Alkot Studio.
While the competition for both categories looks strong, we at Glam Adelaide have faith in our fantastic South Australian businesses, and wish them the best of luck at the awards announcement.
The awards will be announced on Thursday 31 October 2024, with full details published in the Eat Drink Design Awards gallery. An official awards report will also appear in the InteriorsAu eNewsletter and ArchitectureAu.com.
