Leaders in Australian luxury fine wine, Langtons, have revealed their annual Top 6 wines list, and to the surprise of no South Australian wine lover, two local wines have taken out the two most prestigious spots.
The Top 6 list features the wines that Langtons think have made a lasting impact in the past year, and will continue to do so in 2026. These are the wines that left the biggest impressions on their team and their clients, truly standing out from the rest. A combination of their high quality and strong value means these are the top drops they recommend for everything from cellaring, investing and toasting to those special occasions throughout the new year.
Topping the list was the ever iconic Penfolds Bin 95 Grange, South Australia 2021. Following in second place was a fellow South Aussie, Wynns Black Label Cabernet, Coonawarra 2021. “Here at Langtons, we spend day-to-day keeping up with the fine wine markets to help the country’s most passionate wine fans build their collections,” said Langtons General Manager Tamara Grischy. “The Top 6 List is a way for us to share our knowledge and insights with wider drinkers to make it easier to pick out the perfect bottle for any occasion.”
Rounding out the top three was Dominus Estate ‘Dominus’, Napa Valley 2021, then Château Figeac, St-Émilion 2022, Savaterre Chardonnay, Beechworth 2023, and finally Bay of Fires Pinot Noir, Tasmania 2023. “The Top 6 list has everything from cult, Australian classics ideal for cellaring and investing, to cool-climate local white wines that are drinking beautifully now to complement any celebration throughout 2026,” added Tamara. “It also features a release from the latest 2022 Bordeaux vintage which has been marked one of the best in the region’s recent history.”

Being dominated by Australian wines in both red and white really confirms what we already know. Wines from down under are some of the highest quality in the world, matching or surpassing their international counterparts. The Penfolds Bin 95 Grange, South Australia 2021, is one of only 21 wines listed in the First
Classified ranking of the Langtons Classification of Australian Wine. Known as one of the country’s most iconic wines, the 2021 vintage has been called spectacular. This vintage in particular has the highest proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon this century, which brings structure and lift to its signature power. As for drinking advice, anytime from 2026 onwards is recommended, and with a cellaring recommendation of more than 25 years. This really is a collector’s must-have.
As for the Wynns Black Label Cabernet, Coonawarra 2021, it is a true piece of Coonawarra history. It celebrates the classic ‘claret’ style of the region and has been released under traditional cork. This one you can drink now, but could also cellar for more than 20 years. For those keen to invest, Langtons is calling it “one of the best value long-term cellaring Australian wines.”

As made clear with these two fantastic wines, what is being produced in Australia is constantly reaching new heights thanks to the innovation of our local wineries. “We’re always proud to share this Top 6 list, but especially so when it features such a strong Australian presence that sees our local wines rival the world’s best,” said Tamara.
