In 2024, South Australia’s Kytons Bakery once again claimed top honours at the National Plum Pudding Competition, winning first prize for their acclaimed Christmas Pudding for the second consecutive year. This prestigious event, hosted annually in Victoria, saw Kytons’ festive dessert outshine numerous entries to retain its champion status.
Sharon Sutton, owner of the iconic local bakery, said “It’s a great testament to the quality of Kytons products and the hard work of our fantastic baking team. To take out this award two years running is pretty special,” she said.
And Kytons didn’t just win 1st prize for their Traditional Christmas Pudding. They also nabbed 2nd prize for their Gourmet Fruit Cake and 3rd prize for their Mince Pies. The nationwide competition featured bakeries from all over Australia, and Kytons showed they truly have the best Christmas goodies in the land.
Kytons Bakery, a staple in South Australia for 86 years, has been managed by Darren and Sharon Sutton for the past 21 years. The couple attributes their success to the choice of high-quality ingredients and the consistency in creating a product that resonates with festive cheer. Sharon detailed the recipe’s components, which contribute to its success: “Like all baking, the ingredients you put in have a big effect on the quality of the product. We only use top grade Australian sultanas and currants, brandy from the Barossa, and just the right amount of festive spices to create a pudding that is soft and decadent with all the flavours of Christmas.”
Kytons’ Christmas Pudding has become a holiday tradition for many locals, with families returning each year to include these decadent desserts in their seasonal festivities. “We love to make products that delight our customers. Products that become part of families’ traditions and our Christmas Pudding certainly does that,” commented Darren Sutton.
