London is calling and what better way to get your fix of all things British than at Saatchi Gallery in Adelaide on Friday nights, a chance to enjoy the best of Britain after hours at the Art Gallery of South Australia.
Held over four weeks from Friday 30 September, Saatchi Up Late will transform the Gallery’s Atrium into the hottest English garden party this side of Buckingham Palace. Kick back in the stylish bar and lounge, where the Art Gallery Restaurant will be serving Pimms on the lawn and traditional British fare, enjoy talks by Saatchi artists and local innovators and a soundtrack provided live by Fresh 92.7.
Fri 30 September – curator Jane Messenger goes head-to-head with artistic duo Littlewhitehead the creative geniuses behind It Happened In The Corner and Sentient Orbs PLUS local skin illustrator Emma Hack responds live to the rough DYI aesthetic of artist Mark Pearson’s aluminium foil and timber sculptures
Fri 7 October – artist Barry Reigate sheds some fluorescent light on his tar-baby sculptures and cartoon inspired paintings PLUS fast-paced and fascinating film, The Saatchi Gallery 100 gives insight into the artists that changed British art in the early 90s
Fri 14 October – local painter and celebrity TV cook Poh Ling Yeow gives her take on British art now through the works of the Saatchi collection PLUS kick back and enjoy a traditional Punch and Judy show, complete with all the violence and innuendo the puppet show is famous for
Fri 21 October – take a voyeuristic look behind the scenes at some of the Saatchi artists at work with a live video link from Saatchi Up Late to the UK based artists’ studios PLUS cartoonist David Schaefer captures the crowd’s reaction to the sometimes challenging works of art with live caricatures on the night
