South Australian Jockey Club (SAJC) Board has unanimously voted to work towards moving the Adelaide Casino Adelaide Cup back to May, commencing in 2012.
The move away from the busy period in March has been driven by various factors including competing events.
SAJC Chief Executive Officer Brenton Wilkinson said, “The decision to shift Adelaide Casino Adelaide Cup back to May has been made with the best interest of racing in South Australia in mind. Competing against the numerous events in ‘Mad March’ is not allowing us to grow the race meeting to levels that were previously achieved in May.”
“Whether the public holiday remains in March or is moved to May is out of the hands of the SAJC however we would be keen to see the holiday shift with the race,” he said
The SAJC will work with closely with Thoroughbred Racing South Australia and the Group & Listed Patent Committee to ensure that the Adelaide Casino Adelaide Cup maintains its Group 2 status following the move.
