SALA becomes Nation’s biggest Visual Artists’ Festival

ALA BECOMES NATION’S BIGGEST VISUAL ARTISTS’ FESTIVAL
The South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival is set to become the largest visual artists’ festival in the nation this year.
The festival is now in its 13th year and with significant growth in artist registrations achieved in 2009, SALA is being extended by another week to run for more than 3 weeks this year – from July 30 through to August 22.
Unveiling the very lively, fresh poster today for the 2010 SALA Festival, the Minister Assisting the Premier in the Arts, John Hill, says the festival has been achieving very broad reach throughout SA.
“Over the years SALA has grown in popularity with artists and audiences with a record 2,773 visual artists participating in last year’s festival at around 500 venues throughout the State,” he said. “Coupled with the program now being extended to run for 24 days, we can confidently say SALA
has become the largest visual arts festival in Australia.”
“An important festival like this, running through August, also broadens South Australia’s reputation as a destination for lovers of art and culture.”
“This festival invites us all to take an hour, a day, a weekend, to get out there and experience visual art by living artists at any number of venues across the State – and of course the SALA Festival is completely free.”
SALA is proudly local, celebrating a brilliant blend of emerging and established South Australian visual artists working in photography, craft, design, painting, digital media, glass and sculpture.
SALA Festival Chair Conny Wilson says, “SALA is truly inclusive, celebrating and developing our artists and bringing their work to communities across the state.
“The State Government’s support helps our artists to reach broader audiences and our partnership with our major sponsor, The Advertiser, boosts the festival’s impact.
The Official SALA Festival program will be available in The Advertiser on Saturday 26 June and also online from www.salafestival.com.
Registrations are open and artists can also search online for venues until Monday 24 May at www.salafestival.com
