With the weather coming in hot as we head towards the weekend, we are in for a treat as the ever-popular, SandBAR is back and open TODAY!
That’s right, the SandBAR is returning for a fifth year, this time to Christies Beach, for another summer season of good drinks and good vibes in the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula.
“It’s a new location, just for this year, we’re really looking forward to it starting tomorrow (December 5th). We’ve recreated what we’ve done in previous years just now in a different set-up, and we’re all looking forward to being down that end of the beach,” shared co-owner Dylan Ellis.
Officially opening today on Thursday, December 5th, the SandBAR will be in operation on Thursdays from 3pm and Fridays to Sundays from 12 midday. There will be extended trade between Christmas and New Year, all the way up until the end of February.
To kick off the excitement, SandBAR has a huge lineup of great musicians ready to hit the SandBAR Stage and set the atmosphere in front of the stunning background. Today there are SandBAR tunes, and then Jake Daulby, Bella B, Lucas Day, and Sophie Ford to enjoy over the weekend.
“A standout of opening day will have to be the great weather that’s coming. A warm and balmy night. We’ve got a selection of five local beers on tap, local wines and cocktails, so it should be a good one.”
The SandBAR, presented by Encore, is temporarily located at the corner of Gulfview Road and the Esplanade. This temporary location was necessary this summer due to construction work on the Witton Bluff Base Trail. Nonetheless, at the new Christies Beach location, they’ll be bringing food trucks, local craft beers, locally made wine, spirits, and live entertainment all summer long.
Each year, the outdoor venue is constructed from scratch, with everything from the furniture, sound systems, bar tables, and barrels all brought in exclusively for the three months.
Included in the fit-out, are picket fences, benches, umbrellas, and more, bringing a snippet of organic rustic charm to the seaside.
The SandBAR is the perfect excuse to head towards the Fleurieu Peninsula and McLaren Vale this summer. Over the next few months, Encore is presenting a series of pop-up activations throughout the region.
From Friday, December 27th until Monday, January 27th, Encore is presenting Pizzateca at Aldinga Beach with a licenced pop-up pizzeria and gelati bar. From Friday, November 22nd to Friday, March 28th there’s the TJS Twilight Markets at Christies Beach, and in Port Noarlunga, Mamma’s Beach Bar will open up from Wednesday, December 18th until Sunday, January 26th.
Whether you are a local, or coming from all over the state, there’s no better time to head down for a day or two and enjoy the SandBAR and other Encore activations this summer.
