State pride is on the line during Gather Round with an unmissable triple header at Glenelg’s Stratarama Stadium this Saturday showcasing the very best players from SANFL, SANFLW, and stars from the past in Slowdown 20.
For the first time, the men’s and women’s senior State games will be held on the same day, with the best of the SANFLW kicking off the action-packed day off footy against the VFL at 12 noon.
That clash will be followed by the SANFL Men’s team against the VFL at 2.40pm with triple Sturt premiership coach Marty Mattner leading the team into battle supported by assistants Sam Jacobs (Eagles), Nathan Bassett (West) and Jarrad Wright (South).
The SANFL is desperate to bounce back in the men’s after losing both State games last season, going down to the VFL by 11 points at Tanunda and WAFL by five goals at Adelaide Oval.

After the back-to-back State games against Victoria, fans will be treated to Slowdown 20 against the All Stars at 6pm, with the likes of Charlie Dixon, Andrew Jarman, Dom Cassisi, Abbey Holmes, and Jacobs who is backing up after his coaching stint, all returning to the field to raise money for the Little Heroes Foundation.
Off the field, there’s plenty to keep the whole family entertained. From 10:30am, kids can get involved in an under-8 girls footy clinic, and throughout the day there’ll be a Fresh 92.7 DJ, giant lawn games and an inflatable handball target in The Advertiser Family Zone. Add in food and drink offerings, SANFL lounges and bean bags for comfortable viewing from the hill, plus the AAMI Lucky Zone, and there’s no better value for the family during Gather Round.
Tickets for the entire day of footy are just $15 for adults, $10 for concession holders, and kids under 18 go free. Entry to the Slowdown is free from 4pm.
“State footy is a celebration of South Australian football at its very best — a chance to showcase the pride, passion and talent that runs deep in our game,” said SANFL General Manager of Football Matt Duldig. “Pulling on the state guernsey is one of the highest honours in SANFL and SANFLW football, representing not just your club, but your State.

“State games are a fantastic spectacle for footy fans, and for the very first time we are bringing together the SANFL and SANFLW’s best talent on the one stage.
“The Little Heroes Slowdown is an exciting and meaningful way to cap off a huge day at Glenelg – with some of the biggest names in footy set to don the South Australia jumper all for a great cause.”
So if you find yourself in the state for Gather Round, or a local looking to get out and show up for our top SA stars, State footy at the Bay is bringing serious energy to Glenelg. This is one you won’t want to miss!
