Russell Ebert. It’s a name synonymous with the South Australian footy scene.
Four times a winner of South Australia’s most prestigious individual football award, the Magarey Medal, Ebert is still considered one of the best AFL players our state has ever produced.
Ebert passed away in November 2021, but his legacy remains. And it’s this legacy that will be celebrated at the Loxton Sporting Oval on the 30th April, in the region the great man grew up.
The Russell Ebert tribute match will be between the West Adelaide Football Club and Port Adelaide Magpies, and is set to be a commemoration and celebration of football.
Both teams will battle to take home the Russell Ebert Trophy, which was won by Port Adelaide at the inaugural match in 2022.
Last year’s match was held in Loxton and was a huge success with a total of 4,500 people in attendance. The grandstand was packed, and organisers are expecting a similar reception this year.
Whilst the 2:10pm is the big game, there are a couple of curtain raisers too. At 9:30am the Riverland Superdogs play the Peninsula Magpies, and then at 11am the Loxton A Grade play Waikerie A Grade.
