SANFL unveils 2025 fixtures with blockbuster matches and expanded regional games

The 2025 SANFL season kicks off with high-stakes matches including a grand final rematch and expanded regional games.

The South Australian National Football League (SANFL) has announced the schedule for its 2025 season, featuring the Hostplus SANFL and SANFLW Leagues. This schedule showcases a series of high-stakes matches and introduces new regional games.

The 2025 Hostplus SANFL League will ignite with a premiere night fixture on Friday, March 28, as Glenelg confronts Port Adelaide at Alberton Oval. This event not only marks the beginning of the season but also sets the stage for Glenelg to commence their quest towards a historic third consecutive premiership.

The highlight for Round 2 includes Glenelg unfurling their 2024 premiership flag, which will be followed by a twilight match against Central District at Stratarama Stadium on April 5. This match is a Preliminary Final rematch, and anticipation is already building.

Adding to the excitement, Norwood will initiate a fresh chapter under new coach Jade Sheedy, with their first game against North Adelaide on March 29 at The Parade. This game, also set in prime time, will enjoy broad exposure through live broadcasting by the Seven Network and streaming on 7plus.

The league has strategically positioned high-interest matches across the Easter weekend. On Good Friday, fans will have four games to choose from, while a Thursday night encounter between Norwood and Sturt at The Parade is expected to draw significant interest.

Anzac Day will reinforce the SANFL tradition of rematches, featuring the 2024 Grand Finalists Glenelg and Norwood at the Bay. It’s anticipated that the match will draw a huge crowd, treating fans to a rekindling of the previous year’s grand final rivalry.

Sean Toohey, SANFL Head of Football Operations, shared “We are really excited about the marquee match-ups, particularly in the opening rounds. It promises to be an intriguing start to the Hostplus SANFL League season while maximising the potential for significant attendances amid the milder weather. We are also really excited to be showcasing the competition in South Australia’s regional areas, providing our country followers with a chance to watch their favourite teams up close, in familiar locations.”

In terms of regional engagement, the season will expand its footprint with matches slated for Eyre Peninsula and Port Pirie. This not only supports the growth of the sport in regional centres but also provides local fans an opportunity to experience the excitement of league matches firsthand.

The SANFL has also prepared a solid calendar for the Hostplus SANFLW League, starting with an exciting round 1 fixture on March 15, where South Adelaide faces Norwood in a Grand Final rematch at Magain Stadium. ANZAC Day will see Glenelg v Norwood as a double header with the men’s league, and there will also be a SANFLW v WAFLW State match returning for a second year on the weekend of Saturday May 3. Following a 14-round home-and-away season, the SANFLW will conclude with a three-week finals series, wrapping up on July 26.

Both the SANFL and SANFLW Leagues continue to embrace digital engagement through SANFL Now, their popular streaming platform, ensuring fans can access live and on-demand games throughout the season.

With new fixtures, a stronger regional presence, and a solid broadcast strategy, the 2025 season is set to deliver exciting football and strengthen the sport’s outreach across South Australia.

The Hostplus SANFL League and Hostplus SANFLW League will again be showcased live and on demand via its popular streaming platform SANFL Now.
