Santa Claus to make special stop in Aldinga with fleet of vintage planes

Air traffic controllers are working hard in the lead up to Santa’s arrival at Adelaide Biplanes this weekend to ensure his safe arrival.

With Christmas just days away now, Santa is making a special top-secret visit to Adelaide to confirm his flight path to the South Pole ahead of Christmas Eve … but it won’t be in his magical sleigh, but rather a vintage Waco biplane.

As Santa’s official flight management team, Adelaide Biplanes has secured the jolly big man’s flight path across South Australia so he can get his sleigh to where he needs it to be safely and on time.

It’s rumoured Santa and Mrs Claus will touch down at the charming Aldinga Airfield on Saturday at 3pm. They will be met by a fleet of vintage aircraft who will fly in formation with them across Adelaide to ensure a safe landing.

The special flight operation will include a Tigermoth, Boeing Stearman, a Great Lakes biplane and a 1930s designed Waco biplane, which are all housed at the airport. Pilots from Adelaide Biplanes will be dispatched to fly the aircraft.

On the tarmac to welcome Santa will be his elves, members from the Sellicks and Aldinga Beach Country Fire Service, an American vintage fire engine, a little 1950s Chevy truck and an open top MG.

All Adelaide Biplanes pilots have been briefed on the visit and will ensure a clear path through the Adelaide airspace. Traffic controllers will also use their surveillance technology to track Santa to help him clear and skim the rooftops. The vintage fleet will also make best use of tail winds to ease him into Adelaide.

All children, naughty or nice, are welcome to wave Santa into Aldinga Airfield and are encouraged to arrive early with their parents for a good vantage spot.

When: Saturday 17th December 3pm
Where: Adelaide Biplanes is at Aldinga Airfield, 174 Colville Road, Aldinga.
