The countdown to Christmas is well and truly on, with just 16 days until gifts appear under the sparkling tree. This may be the busiest time for Santa Claus, but rumours are swirling that he’s sent in a special flight plan to air traffic control for an overflight of Adelaide on his way to the North Pole.
We’ve heard whispers that Mr Claus and his elves will drop into Aldinga at approximately 3pm on 20 December, for a magical festive visit.
Make sure to keep an eye on the sky because you’ll see four vintage biplanes soaring across the coast, one of which, will be piloted by Santa Claus himself. See if you can spot him in the cockpit! The Aldinga surrounds will certainly be a warm change for the big red guy.
The management team at Adelaide Biplanes have been secretly assisting the elves in putting together a cunning plan to dispatch pilot Martyn in a vintage Waco biplane, to fly formation with Father Christmas and his nine reindeers.
The flyover will also feature a fleet of vintage aircraft including the Waco, Tiger Moth, Great Lakes and the Boeing Stearman. Each biplane brings the evocative sounds of early aviation, from the light vibration of the 1930s and 40s machines to the deep rumble of the Stearman’s engine.

Joining Father Christmas in the sky will be Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and perhaps most important of all Rudolph the red-nose reindeer. “It’s very magical,” says Gaylene, ‘the one that makes the magic happen’ at Adelaide Biplanes. “It just about gives us goosebumps because it’s so wonderful and unusual.”
So if you’re in the area, be sure to look up, wave and cheer for Santa Claus as he zooms by and touches down in Aldinga before dishing out Christmas gifts.
