The Santos Tour Down Under is well and truly underway, and as the women’s stage draws to a close, the men’s stage officially begins.
Today, the Women’s Stage reaches the grand finale with with Stage 3, that sees the cyclists climb a whopping 1773 metres, including up one of Adelaide’s toughest and iconic ascents, Corkscrew Road.
To get close to the action, you can climb the Kangaroo Creek Gorge Dam for a great vantage point, line the demanding slopes of Corkscrew to see who will be crowned QOM or wait at a finish that has shaped some of the Santos Tour Down Under’s most memorable moments.
In an event first, today will also see the efex Prologue kick mark the start of the men’s stage, with a 5.5km riverbank loop beginning on the footbridge and finishing near the Elder Park Rotunda.
The men’s stage officially gets underway tomorrow with an 150km loop starting in Tanunda, and travelling through Nuriootpa, Angaston, Bethany and Greenock.
Today, and for the rest of the week, the City of Adelaide Tour Village in Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga will be open, offering something for all kinds of cycling fans, from foodies to lovers of live music, families looking for school holiday fun to city workers in search for knock-offs.
With free entry, it will offer some of Adelaide’s leading food vendors, including Comida, Fine & Fettle, and Fiesta Tajine, as well as pop-up bars with daily drink specials, family zone with activities like LEGO Build a Bike and facepainting, and live music headlined by Vanessa Amorosi and also featuring Marlon x Rulla, DJ Ruby Chew, Tilly Tjala Thomas, Rob Edwards, and Stace Cadet.
As thousands of cyclists descend on SA roads, the RAA has issued a warning for road users, urging cyclists and motorists to respectfully share the roads in an effort to reduce road trauma. The SA Government has also announced that today is Think! Road Safety Family Day, as they encourage families to practise their cycling skills and road safety in the CBD before the race kicks off.
