Australian Bartender’s 23rd Annual Australian Bar Awards have been announced, celebrating the best of Australia’s bar scene, and drawing over 600 industry professionals. The event honoured more than 30 winners in categories, ranging from Host of the Year to the Best Cocktail List.
Among the top winners was South Australia’s Memphis Slim’s House of Blues which (true to the name) is a popular blues destination on Gilbert Place. The venue was awarded Best Live Music Venue, reclaiming its crown from Ramblin’ Rascal in Sydney, which won it last year. Memphis Slim’s previously won the award in 2022, and now it’s back in their hands for 2024.
“Live music is the soul of what we do, and to be recognised for our dedication to creating a vibrant hub for both local talent and international artists is truly humbling,” Marketing Director Victoria Segredos says.
“Working with such incredible musicians isn’t just a job; it’s a privilege, a thrill, and a whole lot of fun. The win isn’t a crown for Memphis Slim’s, it’s a crown for the Adelaide live music scene, and for the incredible musicians who we are truly humbled to work with.
“We’re just the vessel, the place to gather, to enjoy the Blues, and have a damn good time.”
But that wasn’t all for Memphis Slim’s House of Blues. They were also named Bar of the Year State once again – a title they have held every year since 2021, including 2022 and 2023. Their impressive track record includes winning Rookie of the Year in 2021, awarded to Grace Rawlins.
This swanky cocktail den is Adelaide’s home of blues with a long list of live music acts. Thursdays are a standout, with Dusty Lee’s Blues Jam bringing a touch of underground Chicago vibes. But if Thursday isn’t your night, don’t worry, there’s foot-stomping music to enjoy on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays as well.
