There’s nothing quite like finding a truly good breakfast spot, and with the warmer weather not too far away, it’s a great time to discover the best breakfast spots in our state.
Just in time, the short list for the Restaurant and Catering 2024 Awards in Excellence has been announced, with heaps of local spots earning a nomination for their top-tier breakfast experiences.
Here’s a closer look at the nominees!
Cafe Sia Gawler
One of the most acclaimed restaurant options in the Gawler region, Café Sia, is a perfect spot to stop in for your trip out to the Barossa. The cafe offers an all-day menu including an enormous breakfast board with a range of meats, breakfast favourites, and a loaded waffle to top it off. If that’s not enough for you, there’s also a selection of breakfast cocktails and juices as this cafe brings just a touch of the city to the region.

Luigi’s Delicatessen
After winning awards previously for being the best South Australian Italian restaurant in 2021 and 2020, and SA’s best breakfast in 2018, Luigi’s is back on the nomination list as it continues to impress its guests. Well-known for it’s hand-made pasta, Luigi’s is also receiving rave reviews for it’s breakfast platters which are stacked with all the usual breakfast favourites. With open views of the kitchen and bar, it’s a great option for sharing a morning with friends.

Maison Clement
Another returning nominee, Maison Clement, is SA’s first bistro boullion serving the best, quickest, and most affordable food to Adelaide. It has gained huge popularity due to the authentic French cuisine, with a collection of pâtisseries (French sweets) and viennoiseries (Vienna style savoury pastry) that are all made in house. With classic French favourites like croissants, and baguettes, it gives a taste of Paris right at home.

My Kingdom for a Horse
It might have a funny name, but this place is no joke. With an all-day menu featuring a few quirky dishes like Australian blue swimmer crab fritters and shakshouka (a middle eastern dish of eggs in spicy tomato sauce), My Kingdom for a Horse is full of character and great flavours. It’s also a great place for your coffee fix, with an ongoing rotation of coffee beans with different flavour profiles roasted in house and beautiful latte art which is great for the Instagram pic.

Pony and Cole
Offering something a little bit different, Pony and Cole operates out of an old warehouse, but you wouldn’t know thanks to it’s warm façade and now iconic teal colouring. With a regularly changing menu and a pancake of the month, the cafe hopes to always offer guest something little bit different. Most of the ingredients used are made-in house including scrumptious sausages, and a trademark barbecue sauce to give customers dishes that are full of flavour and of the highest quality.

Saints Kitchen
A favourite for locals in the northern suburbs, Saints Kitchen has plenty to offer diners with a variety of bunch options that will satisfy whether you want something for breakfast or lunch. There’s plenty of savoury options including a selection of breakfast burgers, and for something sweet there’s pancakes and waffles, along with super-shakes that are loaded with sugary goodness. But, the pride of Saints is the breakfast tower, a selection of the best bits of the breakfast menu set up in a tower that’s perfect for sharing with a couple of friends.

The Banksia Tree Cafe
Offering a completely unique experience, The Banksia Tree Café takes using local ingredients to a whole new level. Many of the dishes highlight traditionally foraged native Australian ingredients such as Saltbush and Ice Plant, and are prepared over a Redgum grill that gives the food it’s unique taste. With menu items like a XO crab scramble and a smores french toast covered in edible flowers, the café offers guests the air of fine-dining but in a relaxing and friendly environment for a one-of-a-kind experience.

Yolk Cafe
Situated just outside of Adelaide’s CBD, Yolk offers a contemporary and playful option for it’s loyal customer base. Known for their fun flavour combinations, their current winter menu includes a strawberry taro mousse hotcakes, and miso butterscotch banana bread, as well as plenty of delicious frappes, juices, and iced teas to wash it all down with. With both indoor and outdoor dining options, it is the perfect spot all year round.
